The Story So Far...

About a year or so ago, Zoe went on a six week jaunt to Central America.  She had a great time and came back looking for further adventure.  That's when we started talking about taking an extended break from work and from London.  So, we started looking around, asking around and researching options.  Unsurprisingly, we came up with a whole list of choices - going solo in South America, a Middle Eastern sojourn, a road trip across North America, house sitting in Italy, rattling across Russia and China on the Trans-Siberian etc etc.  As you can imagine, it was a tough call with so much possible and so little time in our lives.

One that stoked our interest was Oasis Overland's 16 week Nile Trans Expedition. Coincidentally and about the same time, Zoe's mate, Narelle, announced that she was doing that same journey, but starting in April 2010.  Now, sixteen (16) weeks in the back of a truck with Murphy is daunting, to say the least.  So, regardless of the fact that Narelle would give us some good advice about her experiences,  we decided to apply a litmus test to Oasis by booking their Oasis Nomad - Damascus to Cairo tour for October 2010.  We customised the trip by planning on seeing some of Lebanon and Syria beforehand and dropping out a week early to chill on the Red Sea at Naama Bay in Egypt; an interpretation of the results of which may be viewed here...

So, that's the story so far.  We leave on 14 April to begin our odyssey in Durban, South Africa.
